Dear Member
As you are hopefully aware, the pay offer from the Local Government Association was rejected by members of all three recognised trade unions on the National Joint Committee – UNISON, GMB and UNITE.
As such, UNISON will be running a ballot regarding taking industrial action in an effort to bring the employer back to the table with a more acceptable offer.
The ballot will run from the end of July for a one-month period. UNITE’s ballot, as we understand it, is on roughly the same timescale and we understand that the GMB ballot closes this month.
Unfortunately, due to the low turnout in Devon in the previous ballot asking if members would accept or reject the offer, DCC members will not be balloted for industrial action. This decision was made by the national NJC committee, informed by the south west regional representatives.
We understand that this is disappointing, but the decision is out of our hands. The only workplaces being balloted nationally are those where the turnout for the initial ballot hit the higher threshold.
